2nd time around-have questions!

I attempted to paint my motorcycle last summer/fall, but made some mistakes and ran out of time. I decided to start over with it this spring, so over the winter I have sanded and prepped it, and just got finished priming it today. I have some questions that I probably should've asked the first time around.

1. I will be using HOK BC-25 black basecoat. Will it cause problems if I lay down the basecoat on separate parts at different times? I have limited free time, but want to work on it as much as I can. So if I put on 2-3 coats on the tank and fenders, can I wait (say 1-2wks)to paint the side panels and fairing without having a color difference?

2. I want to lay down brandywine and silver ghost flames after the basecoat. Should I clearcoat the base first, or intercoat it? After I have layed down a clear of some sort, what type of prep do I need to do with it before the flames?

3. I have a Devilbiss finishline 3 hvlp gun with 1.3tip. Will this be an effective gun for the clearcoat(uc-35), candy brandywine and silver ghost flames? I'll be using HOK sg-100 with dry silver pearl and HOK shimrin brandywine.

4. The compressor I used for primer is a Dewalt emglo, 4gal. tank with 2.7 max h.p. It says that it puts out 3.8cfm @100psi. I have been using two regulators(one on the tank and one on the gun). Is this a strong enough compressor?

any other tips or info would be great. Thanks for all the information, and sorry for the lengthy post /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/newbie.gif

I would say that you should not have a problem with the color black matching, but a lot of paints have a window that they need to be topcoated in. Check your particular application to be sure.

Either or, but the intercoat clear will have less build (good thing) but it is not catalyzed, see the response to the time window thing

Should be fine

not positive, but it sounds small. Chances are, you are going to lose pressure before you can finish several passes.
