'83 Yamaha XS650 - with a new twist

Greetings,

Just completed a project some here may find interesting. Took a friend's 83 Heritage, cleaned it up (massively!) and swiped the old Kenny Roberts color scheme for her new paint job:

...and for a new twist, the paint glows in the dark...

And as a bonus effect (totally unexpected), under strong mercury lights, the paint job shifts color to an electric creme yellow:

Just started playing around with this paint idea. It'll be interesting to see what's possible to do with it.

Very Cool

That was always one of my favorite paint schemes for Yamaha. I had that model bike in the past. Did you know that the paint was going to give you those effects before you started the project?

Looks like you did an awesome job for sure.

Thanks for the kind words... Actually, playing with the glow additive was the reason for doing the job - to figure out how to work it into an automotive quality finish. The stuff is pretty granular (up to 65 microns), so it took some head scratching to figure out how to shoot it. There's a thread on it here: http://www.glowforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6 The experience gained with shooting this job kicked off some really trick ideas that I'm toying with for the next round...

Very cool. How does this work? Did you just clear the parts with a glow additive? What is the name of the product that you used?
