im doing the basecoat hok tangelo orange and i got the lime green dry pearl powder that i was going to mix with the clear to do the ghost flames, is this a good idea, or should i take a different approach? and if so what approach should i take? after i spray my flames and i remove my tape whatis the best way to get all the adhesive material from the tape off? should i wipe it down with wax and grease remover, or is there some kind of paper i can use to mask off my job so i dont have to fight with the adhesive? thanx /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/newbie.gif

If you don't topcoat clear the tangelo(which you don't need to) just spray a coat of intercoat clear over it and then lay out the flames for the green pearl. This way oyu're only clearing once to lose the edge before you final clear it and keep it on the thinner side.

Intercoat clear is just a clear basecoat used for protecting the color from tape tracking, the tape can pull metallic and pearl and srew it up if you tape directly on the color. The topcoat clear is what gives you the shine and protection.

To actually answer your question, mix your pearl in intercoat clear so you don't get a thick edge.Good tape usually won't leave a residue behind but if you do get some just wipe it off with grease and wax remover after the flames have dried enough to mess with it.

Intercoat Clear is a House Of Kolor product that is basically a Basecoat without the color pigment as Rex said, so it is thinner than a regular clear coat. This will leave less of an edge around your flames after you shoot the ghost flames. The benefit is that when you clear coat your work the edge around your flames can be CAREFULLY sanded down with 1500-2000 grit so that they can't be felt on the final product. Be careful not to sand through the clear coat to the paint when doing this. After sanding the completed job, buff and polish. If this is your first job, I would probably leave the buffing and polishing to an experienced person until you learn exactly how to do it without burning through the clear and paint.

where can i find the intercoat clear cause i cant find it on the website, or can i just thin out the uc35 a little more than i would to do the topcoat? thanx /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

You can get the intercoat clear from the same place you got the uc-35.Since It's HOK clear and is thinner,You can use the uc-35 for the pearl flames if you'd like,it will just leave a taller edge.I don't think I would thin it more than the reccomended amount.Since your new to this, remember with pearl, less is more!use very little pearl and go with several light coats. If you don't get complete coverage in the first pass, let it tack and shoot another coat.Pearl in clear is funny, too much in one pass and you can blow the pearls together creating the look of a run,do that and your screwed.Remember,Less pearl and light coats with tack time in between.I did it this way with purple pearl over a black base.

i read somewhere in this site that instead of using intercoat clear u can spray a light coat of topcoat clear. is this a possibility? also, should i wetsand the basecoat be4 i spray the intercoat clear, and then should i sand the intercoat clear be4 i shoot my ghost flames? once i've shot my flames how long should i wait to remove the masking, and what steps should i take from there? thank u for all ur help its greatly appreciated, i know some of my ??? probably sound really stupid, but im just learning and i dont want to screw things up, i've never went to school 4 this and i dont have anybody to teach me so im basically going off of everything i've been learning on this site, although i do know the basics and i am mechanically inclined. this site has been alot of help, and everybody on it has been really helpful, so thanx to everyone /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

You should shoot the Intercoat after the base coat has flashed (approx. 10-15 mins./check paint manufacture) After about 1 hour you can begin to tape out your flames on the intercoat clear. If you don't begin the tape out with in 24hrs, just wetsand the Intercoat with 1000-1500 grit and begin. Just in case you don't know, when you wetsand the IC it will have a dull finish, but when you are done with the flames or murals, the final clear coat will bring out all of the color and shine again.
