i'm painting an old motorbike tank, pre 1930s. well it went fine the first time. i mixed my custom ratio of 4:1 (acr.enam:flateningagent) and reduced and hardend as said. the first time i did it, it came out fine. i striped it, didn't like it so sanded it down and got it ready to shoot again. well it had a bounch of dirt specks in it, so i thought? so i sanded it down again and shot it again.....what the heck, i've never had this much problem w/ dirt!!!! i looked in my cup and the specs were all over the place in there. still being naieve to the situation. i give it one more shot... i think the cold weather got to my paint, b/c it's making the chunks and spitting them on the surface. i don't know if it's in the hardner or the paint. i've never had a problem w/ cold weather before, but i think it is reacting to the laquer thinner that i use to clean up my gun w/.

has anyone had this problem before? i don't want to have to buy more hardner (expensive crap!) has anyone heard of this before? could it happen if i added too much hardner?

i used to use centari(DuPont) and we did get chunks in the paint sometimes particularly when they used a red tint.i have had chunky hardener too.what i did was stack two or three fine filters and strain the hardener and the paint separately and again after mixing.we get some really cold weather up here.( 30 below Celsius Wednesday and Thursday)and i have never seen it affect either the paint or the hardener.if the can has been open before and then stored for a while i would say the problem was due to oxygen in the can.a real neat trick i found is to get your MIG welder and shoot some inert gas in the can before sealing up.works great.i don't think the thinners should affect anything.good luck.cyas

hoss i have found more often its not the paint doing this its the flattening agent doing this so i make sure it is mixed very well and strained with at least two strainers try this good luck w
