Ive done lots of reading on this site, but what Ive really been looking for is detailed advise on applying shadows on my flames to give them a kind of 3d look. Im currently flaming my beer fridge and I would like to try shadowing the flames. Is there anyone with pictures or advise on how to go about this. I have an Iwata HP-CR airbrush and an Iwata LPH-50 spray gun that I use. Any help would be great.

Basically what I do is just over-reduce some black, sometimes adding other colors, but for the most part black, then airbrushing this on. if you want to butt it up agains an outline or the flame, you will need to tape up the outline and flame. If you are doing a line away from the outline, you can do this freehand.

Shadowing really doesn't have a true effect until you clearcoat the part.

Thanks for the advise. I'm kind of concerned about where abouts and what side of the flame to actually put the shadows on. I've browsed for pictures on the site but really haven't seen any good pictures that represent shadows.Any idea how I could find some good examples to get some ideas?

i go to biker websites and find their links pages. there are a lot of painters on the web that have great example. Quite a few are on this board. just surf the net and see what you can find.

one thing that i remember is that there are shadows on both sides one is darker, and one is lighter. Just because light is comming from one side doesn't mean that there are no shadows on that side.

take a round object, or something in a room. Shine a flood light on it and see how the light acts on it. this will give you a good idea also.
