This is what I am planning to do, put down complete base coat then take my time and block sand with 600 wet. Get it as smooth and slick as possible. This may take me a week or so then shoot my clear. Two or three coats sand that with 1500(?). Slicken it up maybe another coat or two now sand with 2000(?), then buff. Is this wrong? After reading some other post I am beginning to doubt if this correct. My problem is that I am not going to be able to correct my problems on the base or clear the base within 24 hours. By the way I am using omni bc/cc.

I hope your base color is a solid color.Check the directions but you sould be able to sand the base (pretect it until you get back to it),then lay another coat of base, let it flash then clear. If it's metalic you need to keep enough base to recoat and adjust the metalic before clearing, but both of these need to be done in the timeframe given by the maker. If not you're playing with adhesion problems.

I was new to painting too and also had the same concerns,Base is alot easier than you think,It didn't run on me like i thought,If you give it a dusting first, let it flash(about10min.)you can apply a wetter coat,it won't run because it absorbs into the first coat and so on with the third. If it does,it blocks down quickly.I wet sanded after about 20min with 600 and sprayed one more dust coat(without sanding )and still beat my 1hr clear window. If you can get at least 1 coat of clear on,you can leave it.Just 600 it before you spray your other coats of clear when you get time. This took about 2hrs.Check out first paint/first flame job for the results on my base/clear.

You really shouldn't wet sand the base. Because the clear is where your shine is.The only reason you should wet sand the base is because of a problem. Since you are using basecoat/clearcoat and not Laquer, why not save yourself time and hassle and base then clear Then wetsand and buff the clear for that nice SLICK look. I hope I sound like I know what i'm talking about. Oh, omni doesn't last very long from experience. But it is inexpensive.
