Since I dont have a small gun or airbrush, I was thinking about trying a Preval Sprayer for pinstripes and flame tips. Any thoughts?

Its possible you could use your spray gun if you can adjust it down with the knob that adjust the spray pattern(side port) and the knob that ajdust the flow of paint.
Turn both knobs all the way closed and start adjusting both until you reach your desired results. Then spray a test panel.

I've never been satisfied with Preval sprayers because of the lack of atomization. I always got a very small fan with very big drops, totally unacceptable. Those cans you add compressed air to don't work well, either.

As long as you've got it taped off use your normal gun,cut back on the fluid, run your fan size down a little, leave the pressure up some and use the right temp reducer. If needed over reduce it a touch. What you want to do is get pulverizing atomization with the big gun, even if it takes 2-3 coats to cover the edge will be minimal.Think of covering the floor with BBs or bowling balls, the BBs will cover in less coats and be thinner. That's what atomization is all about.Brushes an detail guns are great but you can work around them to a point until you get one.

You can pick up a cheap Central Pneumatic air brush on ebay for $5 - $8. They aren't the best for doing actual artwork, but for laying in shadows and flame tips etc. they work great. They are single stage so all you can control is the release of paint, but I've used mine several times and it works great.
