I only use Auto air colours, great product and easy to use.
They also have a wide range of colours and mix well, getting real depth in the colour sometimes needs a bit of work but havent had a problem yet. Best bit is no time windows to get things done, also it seems to work fine with most primers and clears. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bigokay.gif

Hey one thing I was curious about Auto Air Colors is, how durable are they and do the resist fading from the Sun?

Also how do you reduce them if needed to put through an airbrush? I tried experimenting with some I got for free from BearAir & didn't have a lot of luck. I really want to use them to paint models with in my spare time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

once they are cleared there as durable as any other paint. Havent had any problems with them being light fast and some guys I know who use it a lot say there shouldnt be any issues.

Use autoair reducer and you wont have any problems.

Thanks for the info! I never saw the autoair reducer, that's probably one reason why I couldn't get it to spray correctly. I also had concerns about the color fading in the FL sun. I'm going to experiment with Autoair, because it's reasonably priced and will probably do good for mural work.

Do you use any of the catalyst and bond all with your autoair?

Thanks for the info. Do they have the same odor when painting? My neighbors house is pretty close to my garage and I'm afraid they may get a little peeved at me for a lot of strong smells.

Thanks again,
Steve

Createx is a water based paint so the odor is almost
non-existent.
I've got helmets I painted 3 years ago with no noticible difference in color intensity.
Just be sure and give it time to dry before spraying it with clear,a hair dryer will speed the process.

I was just curious. Have these products improved significantly since Craig Frasr wrote "Cheap Tricks and FX"? Because in his book he reccomends not using water base. He also admits to being "somewhat prejudiced to HOK products" I certainly like the non toxic characteristic but have been reluctant to try them. AL

I never used the old AutoAir but the new stuff is apparently a vast improvement over the old product. Give it a go

I've been using Auto Air for several years now. Thay are a great product, especially where the average artist does custom painting from their house. They are non toxic and have a very large color selection. As for the Bond-All and Catalyst, the main use for those is for the original base color to ensure a strong bond to the primer or sanded clear from a previous paint job. When used though, make sure you heat set the color with a hair dryer or heat gun for the BA and Cat. chemical bond to take affect. If possible, I still try to use a urethane (i.e. Dupont, HOK etc.) for my base coat because they are more durable. AutoAir is GREAT for mural work.
