I've never used it either. when you say it will save you tons of money, how much.
A quart of metallic base run about $75 or so and the candy runs about $85 or so.
So is the paint with pearl less than $160 comparing apples to apples?

Thank you for the response. It's going to save me quite a bit as I only have to buy clear and a base colour it will cut it almost in half i would of course still be using a quality clear for it like hok or ppg. I just want to know if mixing your own candies and pearls you would get similar results? There are are sO many different colors I could create this way if it works. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions appreciate it.

Most candy colors are usually Cleared over, And it sounds like you are going to mix it into the clear and thats the end. I don't know if the pearl will be light fast or not sounds like a gamble I would not want to take maybe get some to play with and see how it works before jumping in all the way. Just a thought.

ya it will be mixed into a intercoat claer but then final clear over top just like normal. i have never worked with it before but isnt a "candy" basically a clear with a dye in it?? i seen that house of kolor sells the concentrate for it also. SO i dont know might as well give it a try if it works great if not, not a lot lost i suppose

You also have to factor in the hardner for the Kandy which is another $70. Kustom Shop Kandys are like $60 something and come with the hardner. Their metallics are pretty nice too.

I've used a lot of their products I painted the top half of a Prelude with their Electric Blue Candy mixed into HOKSG100, I've used their metal flake and pearls too.

You really need to play around with it to see what works, but it's a lot cheaper to experiment with than HOK

definitely like their products since you can add as you go and get the exact color you are looking for. so far only downside is their packaging time to get it shipped. definitely have to plan ahead. I dont know what their flakes are, but they are definitely too big to airbrush.

i have used the candy concentrate (not hok)mixed with clear & then clear coated over, all i can say is the results were as good as using hok candy at a fraction of the price
the results were excellent (will use every time now)

Welcome to the forum Tony.

So the candy concentrate that you used was from the paint with pearl line?

hmm how can you mix a quart of candy for 40 bucks when 1 quart of DBC500 is over that ($47.53 shop price 2011) and walk in price would probably be in the $70.00 range. I suppose one could buy a gallon @ 155.00 then in theory it would be $38.75 per quart for the DBC500.

I always pay about 60 bucks over the counter, which makes two quarts once reduced.

Yes I have used it I think It works great it takes a little trial and error to measure it out, but it works nicely sometimes it will change the color if you use too much. You may get a milky clearcoat.
