alright I have airbrushed before but I am new to painting cars and bikes with body work and some bare metal. I was told to use an epoxy primer, then sand or wet sand with 300-400grit, then add base and top coats but I have also heard I need a 2k high build after the epoxy is it ok to skip the high build? whats the best epoxy primer and has anyone used tcp's epoxy white primer, I like bright colors thats why I use white

second question is I have been spraying ppg and sem base paints with ppg and sem clears and they all work together great with no problems but has anyone tried the tcp globals custom paint line, there paint is cheaper but are the paints just as good and do they mix well with others? I would think they would work together

I have never used hok either but is it ok to use sem/ppg clears on top of their basecoats? and why was I told to avoid mixing hok, they dont mix with sem/ppg

just dont wanna waste alot of cash on paint that will clash and casue problems

thanks for any help

Sounds like you want to sand it and just go ahead and paint it.
I would suggest using a 'sealer'. Once you have it in the booth and ready to paint, spray a 2-3 coats of sealer. This is wet on wet. Meaning, there is no sanding between the sealer and the base.

Never mixed the paint you are talking about.

Although I have sprayced HOK clear over PPG.
Anytime I use the HOK candies or other basecoated, I normally just use their clear.

thanks! dont know if I will be able to go that way wet on wet I normallly have a dirt spot or two painting outta garage. I have never done it that way but definitly sounds quicker and will do if I get a clean job if not is ot ok to sand down with say 600 the next day and shoot? heard there was 72hrs on the shopline epoxy primer

thanks again I really appreciate it I am just learning the automotive side of painting been doing signs/shirts/walls or garphics on tanks but nothing I had to go down to bare metal and use primers/sealers

if you have a lot of body work I suggest a high build. if the stuff is super straight PPG's DP line of non sand epoxies work great ,start top coats the next day or up to a week. gives ya time to nib any dirt before paint. I do not advise mixing product lines. some times it works, some times it don't. not worth the risk. dont know about you but I prefer to do the job once and do it right. as much as I like painting, its not like sex, once the paint is done I do not wanna go back on it. By the way H.O.K. clears are made pretty much the same as others, but their bases and candys are a different animal altogether .their made of a nitrocellulose resin
