applying gradients

the how-to on the site gives great insights on how to get started. At some point I want to do flames that are blue, then fade to pearl gray tips.

so how do you shoot gradients? I will be using an airbrush.

just work backwards apply the pearl then start shading the blue

I would go the other way.Lay out the blue flames and then brush in the tips.I wouldn't use a solid blue if the tips are pearl of course.
