automotive pinstripe for flame outline

Has anyone tried this. I have read alot of the post and have seen no mention of it. The only problem I could see is if you can't get it to make the sharp bend at the tip of the flame then you would have to cut it. If you could outline the flames in one strip and clear over it then it might work. Any thoughts.

it would be like clearing over a decal its very easy to run, why not double tape on both the inside and out side of your stripe location and either spray it or use a striping brush with striping enamel

What exactly is a striping brush? Is it the type of brush they use to paint the swirly line designs.

are u painting the pinstripping or using a pinstriping product such as 3m? an exteamly sharp bend such as the end of a flame cannot be made with a vinal pinsrtipe and you would have to cut it. does your customer want this? ask him!!!! if they don't care then you can do it but be carful while clearcoating because it will easily run over the pinstripe...you can pinstripe without clering but then u will get the edge of the pinstripe....it's all about what the customer/you....want...good luck

Rex, yes its a little more work but for someone who cant free hand stripe it helps a bunch and it looks a hell of a lot better, but thats my opinion. one of the reasons of striping flames is to hide inperfections in tapping the flames not just to separate the flames from the back ground it also makes them look more flowing than just sitting on the paint

It works alright for separating a 2 tone, but I wouldn't outline flames with it.The easiest way is blow the stripe color first, fineline it off,do your base work, cover it,do the flames, unmask the base and peel off the fineline and clear it all. It's better to let someone hand stripe the flames before you clear if you can,but you can also tape off the stripe and paint it if you're into the extra work.

I see what you're saying but I never tried it myself.I have broke off a 2 tone but I could never figure out how to end the tips without the overlap or cut line of the tape showing, and since I can't hand stripe I usually layout the stripe first.Actually my way might be more work because you really have to take your time pulling the fineline and trim the spots that want to roll over or pull.
