Base coat color

I have some ball helmets to do for a baseball team so they all have to be the same. What they want is candy brandywine with silver flames fogged in black.Does anybody have an idea on the base for the candy.Gold silver, russet gold. The more I think about this the thicker the forest is getting.Thanks.BD

The cheapest would be a silver base but it'll take more time with the flames since you're taping them off reverse to normal.

I think I need to clarify that.Spray the whole thing silver, tape off the flamed area and candy the rest. Then all you have to do is fog in some black before clearing.Another option is fog all the silver with black lightly then mask and candy. This will be much quicker if the flames can be more of a charcoal look than hilighted with black.Since you have quite a few to do you want to spend as little time as possible to get the desired results.

Thanks for your advise Rex.Like the idea of fogging the black over the silver. What color would you use under the candy brandywine to make the candy really punch out.BD

I'd use the silver too.You can paint the whole helmet silver, reverse tape the flames(masking the flame instead of the outline and covering the outside of the flame) and candy it.when you pull the tape you have the candy with silver flames. Then come in with an airbrush and fog some weak black on the silver flames.
