Do base coat paints come in the acrylic enamals, laquors, or what ever, or is it just "base coat paint". Just wondering b/c i am going to go purchase some base coat for the first time, and I don't want to have people see me while i ask a stupid question. I'll just post them on here cause you don't know me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sunglass.gif

What type of base should I use,(acrylic, laquor) if there is a difference. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif I'm planning on going to o'reileys, or napa to buy the paint.(do you know if either of them sells omni products? cause scott said it was a good product for the price.) I have a urethane clear by western, and the whole sale paint shop that i got the clear from doesn't do base coat paints.

Usually basecoats are urethane's,acrylics being the most popular.Enamels have toyed with it but don't work out too well, and lacquer is basically lacquer-you can do a color and clear deal but the straight color will work out fine as long as it isn't pearl or metallic (you'll burn the P or M out when you buff it).I'm kind of surprised the Wesern doesn't have a base, years ago it was the generic version of Sherwin Williams-the same as Martin Senior or the Napa brand (don't recall their name right now),and one more name I can't remember.Omni is nothing but the same deal packaged by PPG as a generic line. The only bad I can say about it is I have seen a few clear delaminations of the Omni clear over the better PPG DBC or DBU basecoats, but I can't say if it's painter error or product failure.I'm leaning toward the first scenario but I won't stake my life on it.

Yeah,if you want the good stuff it's best. Most is marketed by just urethane but it'll end up being arylic and /or polyurethane. As long as it's a normal compatible system the prefix (acrylic/poly) doesn't matter.
