Basecoat question

I'm going to be painting my streetrod in the near future last week i painted the firewall so that i can put the body on the frame , my question is i'm using Dupont products b/c c/c and i would like to two tone it and add some flames but with my time frame it will probably take several weeks to accomplish this if i spray the basecoat can i shoot the clearcoat several weeks later with any problems? Ron............

Wont work.What you'll have to do is base it and clear it,then when you want to do more sand it down,tape off and spray the next stage and reclear it.It sucks but base doesn't stay open that long.You can use an intercoat clear instead of topcoat clear but be carefull of how thick your base is getting,it isn't good to have over 5 or 6 coats of base under topcoat clear,too much soft base moving around under the hard clear.
