Black Chrome

Does anybody have a way to make chrome "black chrome"? Is their a paint that is translucent to allow the chrome shine to remain but give it a black tint? Or would it just be better to have it powder coated or plated in some method. Any help would be apprecied.

There's actually a black chrome process just like the normal chrome. Do a Google search and youll find it. thought I had a site saved in my favs but can't find it now.they had a home kit to do it.

Gary has developed PermaStar coatings which I saw at the SEMA show last year. Amazing. One of them is black chrome, on a Vette wheel he had done. Looked unreal.

Black chrome has been around for a long time and is big in firearm refinishing.I haven't verified it but supposedly it's more of a nickel coating than chrome.The way it wears I tend to believe it because it is softer than normal chrome.Beautiful finish though.
