I have a couple of questions, first off I would like to imform the forum that I'm not up to speed on the new painting products, i'm a 60 and 70's painter. I did paint My motorcycle with HOK products and it came aout great. My problem now is i just painted my buddies tank black PPG DDL 9300 lacquer black and it blushed, I live in Jupiter, FL it was hot sun was shining, so I can't figure why it blushed, I used premium clear coat brand thinner. My plan was to urathene with clear (PPG) right after painting. My questions are 1) what to about blushing? 2) Should I have went ahead and clear coated, would the blushing have gone away with the clear, also I would like to know if I let the lacquer cure could I sand with say 600 and clear, would the sand scratches not show thru. Any help would really great. I found this forum and i'm really impressed with the info here

Thanks

If you did this anytime recently it blushed from this ***** humidity of ours.If the thinner wasn't PPGs that could be the prob, you need their slowest now and a splash of retarder wouldn't hurt at all-at least its been brutal here on and off for the past 2 months.Try buffing it,the moisture will probably burn out unless it's real bad.

Adman,
It could also be moisture coming from the air compressor through the air hose.

Like Rex said...if it's not too bad, it should buff out.

HOW MUCH OF A DISTANCE DO YOU HAVE BETWEEN YOUR COMPREESOR AND THE MOISTURE TRAP? IF YOU PLACE IT AT 10-15 FEET FROM THE COMP. YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE MOISTURE. IF THAT'S WHERE THE PROBLEM COMES FROM

Adman,I forgot,it's not a good idea to clear that with urethane because it can have an adhesion problem. It can be done but I haven't persued the combo that will hold.If it doesn't buff out just give it a good 600ing and reshoot it.Check that the humidity is low (I think that was a joke for us) and back off a little so it just goes on wet,if you hose on a heavy coat it can blush where a thinner one wont.

Thanks for the feedback, I am going to get PPG 105 that's what my local PPG rep said, also on the clear, I was told to allow the laquer to dry, sand with 600 and clear, thats from my PPG rep, I would trust this forum more than the rep, what should I use for clear? I'm installing decals on the paint before the clear

Thanks

If Cam is the rep there (a tall Ausie) listen to him,he knows his stuff.I met Deano,he's a round shaped older guy,and from playing around with some of their custom line with him he seems to be good also.I would think when he says dry he means real dry,not like in a day or 3 but I'd double check with him on the amount of time.
