Buffing

When I get done with the buffing it looks great. About an hour or two later it seems to dull up alittle. I buff it again to a shine, then it does it again.... What is going on? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif

Austins right. Some clears take longer than others to cure.

You can get a job perfect, then stick it out in the sun, and this will probably bring back all the scratches. Doesn't even look like you buffed it. This really happens to darker colors since they draw so much heat.

Thanks, I buffed the next day and the colors are dark. It is about 90 deg in my garage so I thought it had cured fast enough. I'll wait another day or so and let you know what happens.

I found out today that I put the wrong reducer in my clear.
I am using Chroma Base clear and I put the reducer for the base color in it by mistake. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/foreheadslap.gif Has this happened to anyone else and if so what should I expect? The paint man here didn't know what will happen. He suggested to let it dry for a couple weeks and try buffing it again.

Man,dont you friggin hate it when that happens /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flame.gif I don't remember DuPont that well but if the basecoat reducer has a hardner in it it's a guessing game now.I want to say since it didn't coagulate and you didn't notice a difference in spraying it there's a good chance it will eventually set up.If it doesn't continue to set in a week,2 tops,it's screwed-there's nothing for the base catalyst to bind with and it isn't working itself out.

Thanks for the help guys. I haven't messed with it since Thursday. I will re-buff it sometime this week and let you know what happens....

Question, I have been using DuPont base coat for 2 years. My biggest complaint has always been, the job looks good untill I buff. Then a day later it looks Dull. I have re-buffed my last time. I now tell cutomers to bring it back in 2 weeks. Bty...I also used base reduser in my clear once...it worked out fine, just took a little longer to fully cure.

I re-buffed the parts again the other day, after about a week and a half, and they seem to be holding a shine. I think things will turn out alright.
