im new to flame painting..and i cant say im much of an artist..i was wondering if i can get transfer tape and have the flames drawn onto it (by a better artist than i) and then just cut out my pattern then stick the paper to the car? or can i buy full size flame stencils some where?..thanks for any help.

Yes, you can do it that way.
But it would be better to put the transfer paper on the vehicle then draw and cut them out.
Just be super careful when drawing and cutting.
Don't push too hard on both counts. Lightly sketch with a pencil then go over them with a Sharpie marker for final lay out. Cut with an exacto knife being EXTREMELY CAREFUL!! I do it this way all the time with small graphics and such. Easier to draw on than masking tape.

will i have any problems with the edge of the transfer tape bleeding?..also is it going to pull up my base coat when i remove it to clear the whole car?..i thought about just painting my whole car, clearing it then waiting a few days and add in my flames, then reclear..but this will be twice as much work and twice as much clear...decisions decisions...thanks

You may have some blowouts but what fun would it be if we didn't? Actually the trandfer tape may peel a little after cutting so you will have to go over the edges to make sure they are down and secure. It won't peel up your base color, or at least in my exp. it never did. If you're worried try spraying a coat or two of intercoat clear to protect your base. If it's prepped right you won't have any problems.

i think i will try to lay the flames on with the 1/8 inch tape then put the transfer paper over it and cut it along the 1/8 patern with a exacto knife..i think this will be way easier than the masking tape method...i just hope i can lay down some decent looking flames...i rent a booth and will have to do all this in a reasonable amount of time...wish me luck!

Jim, House Of Kolor makes a kit called Bag-O-Flames that has predrawn flame patterns, and I think it comes with a pounce wheel, chalk bag and tape so you can transfer the pattern to your car.

I used the HOK Bag O' Flames..cost me about 25 bucks for the pattern and instructions. I bought a pounce wheel and chalk bag from an outfit named Dick Blick (art supplies). It worked really well for I am definetly art challenged! Shot with Dupont Chromalusion over HOK Kandy Apple Red...looks really kik butt!
