I seen Jesse James Chrome a Tank and frnders on one of his bikes. Do you think there is a way to have a Black base coat with chrome flames? Or anthing to this effect? I think that would look really cool. Thanks all cant wait for summer!!!!!

I would think you would have chrome the tank, mask up the flames, then spray the base around them.
Don't know for sure though.

I got some info on the new tech. of the sprayable chrome. It's from Alsacorp.
The product is called Fantachrome.
The results look killer. I haven't persued it because I don't think for the $$ right now it's not worth it to me. But maybe someday.
The application equip., the small Fantachrome Spray Kit runs a steep $2400.
Comes with the four guns, hoses, and pressure vessels. Whatever they are.
The chroming pakages are from $3600-
$24,000. So minimun it will cost you $6000.
OUCH!! And when you need more chroming materials you must purchase one of the packages. Another $3600. Another OUCH!!
You can look it up on their site at
www.alsacorp.com

DDG,
Thanks for the info

. Sure is quite a hefty downstroke to get going. Sure would take alot of "chrome" jobs to make it up to get in the profit zone... your're right...ouch!

I wonder what the average cost for each chrome job is though...let's say a chrome base with colored flames.
Maybe a couple thousand?!?!? Anyone have something like this quoted to them from another company? (Don't use names!!!)

In the long run, I'm sure it would be worth it...I get a request about once every two to three weeks for some type of chrome painting.

Funny thing that you mention chrome flames, I thought I was the only nutball out here. Check out Air Brush Action magazine. lot's of good tips. Look for Craig Fraser books and videos for special f/x's. Just got some back issues and the cover of April 2001 looks like a photo of a chromed out Indian bike but is actually airbrush art. So get out your airbrush and practice. I'm going to try it on my wife's helmet next week.

There was an article on a bike done this way in Hotrod Bikes Magazine a couple years ago. It looked pretty trick. If I remember correctly, Scott is right, they chromed the whole thing then taped out the flames and shot black in the voids leaving chrome flames. I threw it away, but you might try searching their website. They may have articles archived you could get ahold of.

On pricing of Fantachrome, the cost per sq.ft
for the small package is $4.50 (waste not included) and $2.00 for the largest package.
One thing I forgot to mention is that you can tint the clear to give it any look.
It says you can apply it on metal, wood, glass or ceramics.
