Can you do this?

I'm sure you can if you want. They do it to decals all the time. I would be concerned about overlaps unless you have some mighty thin material. bronzeo

Go to an auto body supply store or a parts store maybe.
See what the have as far as pinstriping tape.
You may find an 1/8" on but the colors will be limited.

not recomended. It will cause problems with the clear lifting down the road. Bad adhesion problems. That why when you see vinyl graghics they are not cleared over.

You can do it with regular striping tape but it looks cheezy. You get a nasty look at the splice,it takes alot of clear to lose the edge, and it really needs to be left on for a while for the glue to really bite in to the surface-as in along time for the sun to cook it in.

I have tried it once on a Valkarie flame job, did ok with 1/8" pinstripe tape but when I sprayed the clear some of it started to lift...Also you could see the flame edge in the outline since I did lay it on the base....a no no....I was thinking about clearing then sanding, outlining, then clearing again but I am leaning toward getting a brush and painting the outline.....or if I suck having the outline painted on....

I paint Air-craft and we use vinyl for our stickers and then we clear over them. It will last awhile, ours last about 2 years out on the flight line so it can't be too bad. I don't know about the tape though I'd try to brush it on if its something nice or pay someone to stripe it. Just my 2cents

I've cleared over 3M pinstripe tapes for years. Get the 3M that doesn't have a shiny coating. You need to make sure the surface is at least 70 degrees F and make sure you press the tape down very firmly. It doesn't look as good as paint, but I've used the single 1/16" matte silver and have fooled several "experts" thinking it's paint. If you do it right, it takes about as long to lay/join the tape as it does to paint. I prefer to paint, but I've got tape on my old sporty (urethane over lacquer) that's over 8 years old... still looks great. Remember, I keep my bikes inside, I don't think they would look this good had they been continuously exposed to the outside. TC
