I have to do a rush job on a bunch of helmets, and I don't have a spray booth or a compressor. So I was thinking that spray can would be a good route. I want the helmets to look nice, so I need something that would be compatible with wetsanding.

Thanks!

I don't think that there is any canned clear that is cemical resistant or as durable as a mix clear. So, i don't think you could buff it, and be happy w/ the out come. I could be wrong, but doubt it.

There is a spray can paint that can be wet sanded and buffed. I got it at Kragens Auto Parts store in my area. I forget the name of it but it is a color shift paint and it comes in a kit of 3 cans. Primer, Base and Clear. I did a helmet with it and wet sanded and buffed it and it look much better than I thought it would coming from a spray can.

I don't think it is not chemically resistant. There ad shows a motorcycle tank painted with the stuff. But if you are painting helmets it should do O.K.....

I went to my local autobody supply store and got some U-Pol high build clearcoat. They said I should be able to sand and buff it. I hope it works!

if you are doing something small such as helmets i actually reccomend using spray cans and heres why.. i have used ppg clear on a motorcycle i did a year or 2 ago and it came out really nice w/ a deep mirror finish. however,i recently did a guitar of mine w/ nothing but dupicolor spray paint and used the car truck and van duplicolor top clear coat. went up to 2000 wet sand and a meguiars compound and wax and the finish was just as nice as the ppg which i paid much more for....

Alsa now sells mixed clear in a spray can called Killer Cans. The clear and activator are stored in two ares of the can. You combin them by inserting the cap on the bottom of the can, they mix, you shake, you spray. Sandable, buffable clear. About $40 for a 13 or 14 oz can. Just dont try to store the can with unused clear. It will harden in the can after a few hours once mixed, so have a few items to clear at one shot. One can might do 3 or 4 helmets.
