This is my first entry on this site. My question is concerning the candy brandywine flames like in job #160. After the black base is on, do you paint on the gold in the flamesand then the candy over just the flames or paint the candy over the whole tank? This is a great site.

I just finished a set of tins like job 160 and I just put candy over the flames. You can put it all over the black but then it wont be black any more,it'll have a red tint to it.
I didn't use the gold though I went with the silver ice pearl.Worked great but gives the brandywine a more of a purple luster.I think the gold gives it more of a blood red tint.
And a litte tip when you apply the pearl.....it may not look like there is much there but it's more than you think. If your trying for a ghost effect be careful of your edge's, that pearl is alot thicker and it will tend to be thickest at the edge of the flame.Therfore when you start to wet sand, you will sand through the clear leaving a gold or silver(whichever pearl you use)hairline edge on the flame...Im not sure of any tips for this(maybe rex or scott know) but I would just be careful of how much pearl you lay down...it dont take alot
I put 1/2 a teaspoon mixed with about 3 oz. of clear and it was too much....When I was spraying it didn't look like much was being layed down....but when it dried and I candied over it I could see it was a little too much.....good luck

Thanks Bejetts for the reply and good tips. I thought the black might have a red tint to it if I sprayed the whole tank with the candy. Being a newbie I just wanted to make sure. I'm glad I found this site. There is some great advise and tips here. Now to get up the guts to paint my bike. If it doesn't work out I can always keep trying till I get it right.
