Candy Tangerine

So I bought a new bike and want to paint it. I was thinking a tangerine color and after some looking around, I cannot decided. Its a Yamaha R6 if that helps. Was going to do tribal, but is played out. So maybe racing daggers with skulls? Cannot decided yet. No rush

options:
1. Gold metallic base, Graphics then candy
2. Silver metallic base, tang candy, graphics with darker candy
3.Solid orange, micro prism tinted with candy

4.This is the one i want to see. Micro prism as base then candy.

What would you guys pick. Plan with Kustom shop as I have a hard time with HOK for some odd reason.

Really depends on the effect you want out of the graphics.
Personally, I think I would just go ahead and do the candy (candy tangerine over a gold metallic). Then clearcoat, resand.
THEN, I would do the graphics in shades of black.

I think if you did the graphics in a darker candy, these could end up being pretty subtle and hard to figure out what they are. of course, this really depends on what shade candy you go with.

Maybe once you are done, just put a very light dusting of somesort of prism, or color shift flake over it. Don't over do this though as it will kill the depth of the candy.

I like candy tangerine though!!!!

Thanks TAZ!
Ya I think I'm going to do a gold metallic base with large flake in it. Then clear coat, sand and graphics then clear

Watch for using too large of flake. If you do this, sometimes the candy will gather around each flake and give you a dark candy spot. You could possibly get away with some MF01 or something like. if you want LARGE, I would suggest going gold metallic, then the coat of flake, clearcoat, resand flat. THEN candy over it and reclear.

if I use a large flake say like Roth Monster flake which is .25 I think..I will flake then clear let dry the sand smooth the candies, graphics whatever then clear again..
Can't really see the flake due to the ligthing but heres and end product of that process..

I don't know what I want to do now. Ya, if I was to do large flake, I would clear and sand before candy. Now, I do not know what base to go with. Prism, sold with flake, metallic with bigger flake graphics....
like these two
Las Vegas Kandy Apple Flake « { Custom Motorcycle Paint } « { Custom Painters } · · · » CustomPainters.org «
Img349_TCD_24_019.jpg « { Thunder Cycle Design- HB Spoke Saloon Chopper } « { Custom Painters } · · · » CustomPainters.org «

So this is the scheme I'm thinking right now.
Metallic base, most likely gold
larger flake gold or orange graphics(stripes and "daggers")
Clear, wetsand
Pinstripe, clear and wetsand
candy and final clear

Go ahead and do a test panel with all the bases at once. Then spray the candy over them in one shot. This will give you an idea of what they will look like butted up next to each other.

Ok, so I am finally getting ready for paint. Now, I have new ideas. Was thinking about silver base, with flake then gold candy topped with orange candy. Or orange base, orange flake topped with gold candy. Or gold base, orange flake, orange candy then gold candy. I am so lost. I want a bright, rich orange, like the mandarin orange sample, but more vibrant. Any help?

The gold candy coated with tangerine candy will only turn out to be the tangerine candy. The gold really won't have a play into the outcome of the candy color.
Why not mix the two together and spray this over a silver base. This will give you a brighter candy orange. Do the mix about 50/50 maybe even a little more gold than the tangerine.

Also, watch doing metalflake or any bigger flake under a lighter candy. Sometimes the candy gathers around each flake and will give you darker candy specs.
There is a way around this, but it involves more steps.

Thanks Taz, I did not think of that! Ya, I going to did it correctly since its my bike, lol. After flake, I want to clear then wetsand before candy. I shot my laptop with .008 and .015 flake mixed together in silver. I loved how it came out. Thats what I plan on doing to bike but topped with candy.

Would shooting some gold pearl over the candy be too much? Drown out the depth of it?

Below is my Big Bear Chopper Devils Advocate that had that mix I was talking about over a silver base.
Below that is a tribal job we did with the same mix. Nice bright rich looking!

The first picture made my wife and I drool. I like it very much. I am planning on getting the rims powder coated. Do you think they could color match, or would it be easier to pick candy orange powder then have myself match the paint?

Thanks so much for the input TAZ, I really appreciate it.

I would suggest doing the paint first. This way you know you have exactly what you want as the color. THEN I would take a painted piece to a powdercoater to see if they can match that color.

I've seen people do the powder coating first, and the outcome is not what they wanted. Then 'we' have to match the color of the powdercoating....a color the customer didn't want in the first place.

By the way, black wheels with that orange would look pretty awesome!!!

True that. Its a 2009 r6 and has the stock black with orange pinstripe for the rims. Was thinking gloss black or candy orange. I dont know know, thanks for putting more ideas in my head :)

The bike is not going to have any graphics and plan on just painting a few pieces candy. Then, all the stock black pieces I want to get them in carbon fiber. Would that look good. Was thinking of putting a coat of candy over the fiber. I dont know though.
