Clarification on sealer dry time

Hi all!

I need some clarification on the dry time of HOK Ko-Seal II. In the tech manual it says to allow flash time between coats (about 5 minutes) then 1 hour minimum/2 hour maximum dry time before base coats. However, on any T.V. show that shows painters using HOK products, they all say to never let the sealer dry completely before applying the base coats.

So - who is right? Is it possible that the older sealers needed to stay wet when applying the base coats? I always let the Ko-Seal II dry at least an hour and have not run into any issues - yet! And I have no idea what would happen if I only allowed 5 minutes between sealer and base coats.

Anyone else have issues or experiences with the Ko-Seal dry times?

Hi Pete,
We only had problems if we let it sit too long.

I recommend spraying the sealer to cover (normally a couple medium coats).
Then give it about 5-10 minutes, then spray your base.

If you wait too long the sealer starts drying, then when you base it, the reducer eats into it and wrinkles. I've also seen it where the basecoat peels off it easily when masking off for graphics.
