Clean ghost flames

I finished my first project (a welding hood) yesterday. I noticed the ghost flames had some rough edges. I don't mean rough to the touch but more like when I pulled the tape away, some of the paint at the flame edge went with it. How can this be avoided? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/foreheadslap.gif

Sounds like you put too much paint on, and it bridged over onto the tape which make it hard to get a clean edge.
Just be sure to paint the flames on thin as possible next time.
You may also want to do a 'test panel' next time before the actual piece. This way, you can see if this happens again if you go with the thinner paint.

I'm guessing that it's plastic. Did you use a plastic adhesion promoter? Plus don't wait till the paints completely dry to unmask it, the tape comes off a lot cleaner that way.
