What do you use to clean your gun after using KP-2 HOK epoxy primer. THe data sheet says not to use laquer thinner so I used a cleaner recomended by the auto parts supply place

and it may have ruined my gun (turned to green cottage cheese). The data sheet said to use KP-3 to clean it and I tried to order some but the warehouse said it was discontinued.
Any ideas ? I really like the primer though.

I have no idea why you can't use thinner but if it set in your gun you're fixin to have fun.Stripper, lots of thinner and maybe a rebuild kit

If you check the data sheet on HOK epoxy primer Ep-2 & KP-2 you will see that it says "Do not use laquer thinner" to clean gun, which by the way is a metal high dollar although 15 year old gun. That is why I am using it for primer. But I will try some laquer thinner, just don't know why they have that in the data sheet.

Mike,
I just shot some KP-2 last weekend and had the same exact problem. Tried everything to clean it up and got the same cottage cheese effect. This might sound a little whacky. But I ended up using Dykem Layout Dye Remover. I don't know if it will damage a gun by soaking. But it even took up some droplets that had dried on the floor for a few hours. I wasn't all that impressed by the way the KP-2 filled. HOK claims it will fill something like a 40 grit sandpaper scratch. And the stuff I mixed would not have come anywhere close to that. I liked the KP-21 better when I shot it.
Hope that helps...

Mojo,
Thanks, I will try the Dykem remover. I had some small holes in my bondo that I didn't notice until I got a wet coat of the KP-2 on and it filled them up just fine but I did lay on about 5 or 6 coats. I guess I like this stuff because you can get right on it the next day.

What kind of gun are you using? I use lacquer thinner to clean with no matter what I'm shooting. I use only HOK products. Lacquer thinner works better than anything else.

Maybe you should think about getting a better gun. Something made out of good old metal instead of plastic. Remember, saving a few bucks on a so-so gun will only cost you money in the long run. (Hey, that rhymes!)

Get a good quality metal gun and use lacquer thinner to clean it up.

Go with the lacquer thinner - its cheap - it won't hurt your gun - unless you leave the plastic parts laying in it over night -- HOK probably has there own cleaning solution that they want you to buy!! --- Bones!~

I use the e cheapo laquer thinner and so far have had no problem. I do clean it right after painting. Not sure how it would react if I left it for a while.
