clear / clear with flattener....

Okay, how should I tackle this one. I've got a bike that will be flat black with a gloss orange strip. In what order should I proceed. At present the bike has the orange and the black both sprayed. I was told that it was best to add the flattener to the clear and then go over the black, but taping off the orange will be a bitch (but I can do it). After this I will have to go back and tape off the black and clear the orange.

Which should I clear first orange or black?

What would happen if I cleared the whole thing and then went back and clear/flatten the black? Will this give the black a little less flat and a little more shine.

What are the characteristics of clear with flattener - can it be waxed, when you rub it will it become slightly shiny???

Let me have those opinions,
Thanks,
Taylor

If i'm understanding you right. The way i'd do it is after first prime is done law out the stripe for the orange then remove tape and then clear . after full dry time tape off the stripe and mask it over the spray the flatened black remove the tape and you should be where you want to bewith only a small adge to work with when any sanding is needed. If i miss read your postthen you can

Thanks Dan.

I'll do that. But out of curiousity - what would happen if you sprayed a black base coat

...then sprayed clear

...and finally sprayed two coats of clear with flattener?

Thanks,
Taylor

Taylor, you could do it either way black first then the orange or the other way. The way i read your post i was picturing a gloss orange stripe as opposed to a satin like finish all over

WITH DUPONT YOU CAN JUST TAK SOME OF THE CLEAR HARDNER ADD IT TO THE BASE AND SPRAY IT AND IT GIVES A FLAT LOOK BUT STILL DURABLE, YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO TRY IT WITH OTHER BRANDS, IT ALSO STILL LASTS IN UV LIGHT
