Clear Coat Question

Just completed laying down the last two coats of clear on my tank & fender project. That makes a total of eight coats with two sets of flames ( double ghost ) buried between coats. I put a little too much reducer in the clear last night and have several runs. I used the razor blade and then have been lightly sanding to rid the problem, but their still there. There are no graphics where the runs are, so my question is this. Can I sand thru the top coat of clear into the one below and buff out, or I'm I going to have to shoot it agin after sanding out the runs. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif

Mowe,The problem is the reducer ate into the other coats but,There are a couple of things you can do,The first being, take a paint stick and work just on the runs with 1500,give the whole thing a quick 1500-2000 sanding and rebuff.
The second which would be quicker but use more clear and if your not careful, break thru. is to 600grit the runs and then a light 600 over everything and shoot again. All sanding is wet of course. If your gonna shoot it again, make sure you dull every bit of clear.Otherwise,it could fleck off in the spots where is wasn't sanded.Good Luck,Jim

Thanks for the promt reply. I think what I might do is sand affected areas with 1000 grit and if I break thru, go ahead and re-shoot, which brings me to another question. If I do re-shoot, that will be 10 coats of clear, is that too much. The$$$ is adding up, but what the hey, I'm learnig so much. Again, Thanks

Well,If you sand with 1000,you can't buff out the scratches.Unless you follow up with 1500. and ,if you reshoot over 1000,it may not be enough for a good adhesion.Yes,I think ten is way too much unless it's a thin clear like HOK.But,it's already done.9 or 10,it doesn't much matter. If it was cured in between,it should be ok.just look out for the rock chips. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gifWhen you get thick like that, rock chips knock out alot of area.Next time use an intercoat clear,it's alot thinner, just so you know,I did the same a loooong time ago,Jim
