Ok, I have read where I have 24 hrs to spray clear coat over the base. What happens after that time. and why.

I have painted base a month ago or so. Health troubles got to me so I had to stop.. It is two tone. red/white. 56 Chevy

Do I have to Respray base again?? and why..

There is some type of bonding agent in the base that helps the clear adhere. once this cures, the clear sits on top of the base and not adhere itself to the base.
You could always go ahead and clear without doing anything, but you chance it delaminating.
OR, you can just sand over with something like 1000 grit wet. Rebase it, then clearcoat it.

If you use a system like PPG DBC you could sand and coat with a product like DBC500 which is a clear base then wait 30min and Final Clear. that way your not spraying the two colors all over again.

What specific base? Many are different.
Is there any metallic at all in the base?

Being a 57 Chevy, I would assume that both the red and whites are solid.

George knows better on what brand and if the colors are solids or metallics though
