Clear mask used in Biker Build-Off?

Anyone know what the product was that the guy painting Indian Larry's bike was using? It looked like saran wrap but had adhesive on one side. It looked like it would be really helpful to lay down on a surface, draw your design and then cut with a knife. I've used contact paper and some white stuff from a sign shop but I've never seen the clear stuff.

I think you are refering to "Frisket Film". It is a thin plastic film with a mild adhesive. I have used it and it works good. You can also get a spray on mask, at "Innate.com", that works good also.

Frisket can work, but the slight tack that you feel with your fingers can be very deceiving. Frisket was designed for Illustration board which is much more porous than the slick surface of painted metal. This slick surface tends to give the frisket film a much stronger bond, therefore the potential for paint to be lifted increases. It could be helpful to lay the film on your clothes to remove some of that tack. Frisket has terrible flexibility, so if you are looking for a film to use on large curved areas, I highly doubt that frisket was used on Indian Larry's bike (I saw that build-off myself). I myself am in search of the exact same product you are, so I will be reading your replies in hopes to find this magic flexible film too. Good Luck

I bought a quart(Around $30) of the spray mask from Innate just to try and see if I liked it.
I love this stuff.
I use a brush to apply mine.
Couple of heavy coats, let dry over night.
Then take a fine tip marker and exacto knife.
Draw layout, cut, spray paint and then peel it off.
Very clean and rookie friendly
=

They sell a similar of not same product for painting lexan r/c car bodies. I've actually got some in my garage. I'll have to try a test on one of my test tanks. I'd still like to know what the clear film is.

Check out airbrush action online. I saw the clear flexible frisket that the Indian Larry Painter used. It's urethane friendly which regular frisket isn't. It should be listed in the new products -- or check out coast airbrush -- I know that dave will have it --- Bones!~

HoK makes some clear liquid spray mask....works well and easy to clean off after you spray. It sure did look like frisket film used on Indian Larry's bike. That artist on OCC (American Chopper) did the same technique with clear film on one of the shows.

I use Badger frisket film and have no problems with it at all. Another product I use is Avery paint mask (Gerber makes the same product), but it's opaque white. Obviously you don’t get the benefits of a transparent mask, but you can definitely figure out how to use it. Another thing with Avery Mask you can run it through a vinyl cutter and get complex designs cut out in it.

I saw some new mask material in an Airbrush magazine that claims it flexible & you can pull it around curved objects and it will lay flat. I will need to do some searching for the product name.

Looks like everyone saw Indian Larry's bike get painted. this frisket is at Dixieart.com. It is flexible, and kinda pricey. I am pretty sure that is the same stuff we all saw. It is suppose to be able to be pulled around curved surfaces. I would think this would be designed better for urethanes and not illustration board. Last board I looked at was flat. Would love to hear about it if anyone gets it. Likewise, I'll let you all know. I am getting into batting helmets pretty heavy and was looking at this stuff.
