How long will any opened container of urethane clear last. Was going to purchase a gallon, but probably won't use the entire thing for a year or so. Is this too long, I could always buy quarts.

Thanks

I talked to a HoK supplier about that last night. As long as it's in a sealed container, he seemed to think it would last a year or two...maybe longer. You could always divide it up into 4 quarts rather than keeping it in a 1 gallon container. That way you wouldn't have a ton of air trapped in the container with it. He seemed to think hardener is the only product that has a severely limited shelf life once opened.

It was my uderstanding that HOK items are sealed under a blanket of Nitrogen, not "air". If the seal is broken for an inspection, or to be divided up into quarts, you would then loose your Nitrogen blanket and reduce your shelf life. Am I incorrect about this?Squirt

Never heard it that way but Coast airbrush does it when they break up quantities.Usually as long as long as the lip is wiped clean and the lid seated they'll last a while,I've seen a qt used a few years after pouring some off and it lasted fine-the friggin can was so rusty it had to be poured through a stack of strainers to catch all the junk.Hardner is what's bad because it sucks up moisture.Everything else can lose solvent from evaporation or overstirring (like on a mixing bank) but a good tight seal lasts a long time-nitrogen or not.
