Clearcoat Question

I recently repainted my motorcycle, first paint job I have done.
I noticed it chips fairly easy, that or I was riding in some crazy dirty roads.
It chips to the grey primer.

What I have been told.
- Clearcoat binds into the paint, and sealer/primer underneath.

If this is wrong, than my question is going to sound stupid.

Situation
- If I let my high build primer sit for a day
- painted my white on
- let it sit for a while (two - three weeks)*woops
- scuffed and repainted with white
- put clear on with pearl, then put 3-4 layers of clear on top of that.
- cut and buff

Question
Is it possible I didn't get my clear on fast enough to bind into the primer?

I used omni highbuild primer. (cant remember if i used omni sealer on top of that on these pieces)
Nason clearcoat

Pics of my project. Will get a pic of where it is chipping up soon.

As you can tell - I am a beginner. Sorry for not making any sense.

My guess would be that you put on quite a few coats of the base and immediately clearcoated over the base.
On a white pearl, you have the white, then you have the pearl, so you will have approx 6-8 coats if done properly. Most painters do not put a base hardener into the base which helps speed up the hardening process. So if you do not let the white and pearl dry properly, then put the clear over it, you have sandwiched 'soft' paint under the clear. Thus it will chip easily.

Before I looked at the pics, I was thinking this was probably a tri-stage paint you were having a problem with...sure enough that looks like a white pearl.

I've seen this before, so this is my thinking on what could have happened.
