I have been playing with my airbrush on a helmet and last night I painted some
blue Kandie and this morning I clearcoated, my paint guy said omni would go over
hok no problem, well the clear ran and pull the blue right down with it, also instead
of having clean sharp edges on my flame the clear made them spread out. What the
hell?? Any ideas what is going on. It looked great I went outside to tell my wife and
come back to this s***.

Sounds like you had a bleeding problem. The first problem would be the runs you mentioned. If you had runs in the clear, than you were pounding the clear on way too much. This would in-turn "melt" the kandy underneath because of too much topcoat application. Next time-do all of your art and when you clear, lay down 2 tack coats. This will help the clear you're using to "make friends" with the art underneath it. I could be a compatiblity problem. PPG Omni is the lower line of PPG clears and sometimes not as stable as their higher end clears. But I really think you just got the runs! -- No Pain No Strain -- oh hell - you know the rest!!! --- Peace - Bones!~

I think Bones has it right with the runs melting the artwork, but if you sprayed the Kandy last night and the clear this morning you are really pushing the amount of time HOK recommends before clearing --(had to edit my post after reading the tech sheets)

The tech sheets on HOK Urethane Kandy says you should not allow Kandy to completely dry before clearing.... if it does, wait 12 hours, scuff and recoat. I usually clear it about 30 minutes after I spray it.

If you did your Kandy by adding the Kandy Koncentrate to SG-100 you would have about a 12 hour window; it's only the catalyzed Kandy which has the really short window.

Good Luck,
John

I THINK BONES AND JOHN NAILED IT. THE FIRST MAJOR PROBLEM WAS TO LONG OF A DRY TIME FOR THE CANDY AND THEN TO MUCH CLEAR. NEXT TIME DO THE TACK COAT THING. OMNI WILL RUN EASILY BUT IF YOU USE THE TACK COAT METHOD YOU'LL BE OK. I'VE USED OMNI OVER HOK MANY TIMES WITHOUT A PROBLEM THOUGH SO I DOUBT ITS A COMPATABILITY PROB.
