clearing over 1 shot

If you pinstripe on a urethane inner coat clear with 1 shot and clear over it with a final urethane clear, since 1 shot is not urethane, will something bad happen because they are dissimilar materials? Also I know 1 shot takes a long time to cure is it necessary to use the hardener? Thanks, Al

I've never had any luck clearing over 1 shot, HOK has some pinstriping paint that you can clear over without any problems. I would go with that.

I've cleared over one shot without problems, but I always mix in a small amount of catalist with it first (the same cat. thats in the final clear).

Thanks for the heads up on the catylist guys. I havent tried the HOK striping enamal yet but I hear it is a little on the thin side. I do have some X-otic but havent got around to trying it yet as Im just now getting my act together with pinstriping and have gotten used to the flow/feel of the 1 shot. Al

It's a good idea to have two cups of reducer. One cup of reducer put a few drops of catalyst that's used in your clear coat choice. The other cup of reducer should be used for thorough cleaning of your brush from time to time to keep the catalyst from hardening up in the hairs of the brush.

Other thing with One Shot is to not be in a hurry and let it dry enough before topping with clear.

I have used 1 shot many times and have never had any problems with it. I let it dry a couple days then I spray a couple mist coats of clear then a couple of heaver coats. The only draw back is having to wait a day or two. I like the way 1 shot works compared to any of the others and it is a lot easier to work with if you make a mistake and have to clean it off and start over. A little mineral spirits and it comes right off without hurting any of the urathines.
