I watched the custom flame painting video. HOK he said spay on a dry coat then a mediam then e wet. When you spray on your first couple of coats You dont want them heavy on dry paint. Does dry mean a little orange peal. Then the wetter coats fill it in and you can't see it?

Kinda. Their reason for doing this is so the first coat has time to "bite" into the paint, so the paint doesn't have a reaction and pull. As far as the 2nd and 3rd or even 4th coats, you can go with medium on them as well.
Remember the video is how Kosmoski would do it. You'll find out what works for you,
everyone is different.

I dont really get any runs when I put the base on and clear it. I scuff it and the lay my flames out and shoot them. When I get the runs is when I clear it after painting the flames. I only let it set around 30 minutes then clear everything. Should I let it set longer before clearing it. All the runs sand out but I would like to not have any.

Are you getting the runs off the tape edge?If so there's 2 things you can do_One is to back off a little so the clear isn't so wet on the tape lines, and the second is to lay down a coat of intercoat clear to give the top clear something fresher to grab into.

I base coat the tank then clear it. The next day I scuff the clear with 1500 then lay out my flames. I spray the base coat on the flames. Wait about 20 min and pull off the tape when I clear the whole piece with the fresh flames I get runs off the edges of the flames. When you spray your first coat of clear should it be a medium coat. Does this mean it has a little orange peel in it? I use regular clear on top of the base coat would the intercoat clear under the flames help the top clear stick better?

In my experiences I just shoot medium coats
all around. The orange peel is from several other factors, gun setup, technique, temp, etc.
Do a dry coat then wet coats, see if that works.
Experience will help alot, knowing when it will run or not. It's hard to tell you what I do, cause I just know what to do and adjust accordingly to what I do per coat. You'll get it after time.
Sorry if this doesn't help,

Spray a dry coat first then follow it with a couple medium coats (just enough so it looks wet. Wet sand or buff out your tape edge and do another couple of medium coats.

what does a dry coat look like? Does it have a little orange peel in it ? When I clear I get down in the light and go slow enough so I can see it nice and smooth when the clear is on the part. Is this right? If I spray my first coat a little dry and it has some peel will the wetter coats hide it?

just went through that . i found from trying differant things, 1st medium 2,3,4 wet the thing i found was if you get humps(more clear), or valleys(less clear) you are always trying to fix that with each coat. spray wet enough to cover but not so much to get runs. if you do you can remove at the end as you finnish and buff
