Could I use a junk airbrush for ghost flames

Could I get away with a cheaper airbrush if I am only looking to paint ghost flames? I am no artist so I don't care about pinpoint precision. If my smallest spray diameter is about an inch then how would it compare to one more expensive? I am just going to spray some bc-02 through it. What do you guys recommend?

I started off using a very cheap airbrush from testors, it was single action and made of plastic. The work looked a lot better when i switched to an Iwata. You can buy an Iwata almost as cheap as other brands. Their entry brush is $59.00, metal and dual action. This is the one I use now and it works great.

Actually, you could get away with using a regular spray gun if you turn everything down (fluid and pattern). I remember when I first started painting that I painted a cobra on the spray booth doors of where I worked so when you closed the doors the cobra would be shown in full. Looked excellent!!!
The gun I used was....a Binks #7.

I have Vandemon's ghost flame DVD and all he used was his regular gun (Sata RP or 2000 not sure) but they turned out excellent. Ive done some pretty decent ones with my RP, just mist the pearl (lazuli blue with some violet KK and SG100 on the tips} but sure a cheap airbrush should work as long as it can atomize pearl without clogging. At the least use a double action airbrush. Pashae (oh thats spelled wrong :)) makes the VL with is a great low cost double action airbrush. It will handle pearl without much trouble, but the Iwata's are really good. Great atomization.

Don't buy junk.If i'm too late and you already have, get some junk paint,a junk mailbox,or junk refrigerator, and paint away. If you're happy with the results then you have your awnser. The paint on a ghost job will cost much more than an entry level brush. If you want junk, use junk and you might have to buy the paint twice.I've used paache VL's for over 30 years, they're inexpensive and tough. The parts are affordable, not like some others.Iwata, and t/c make great guns. It's gonna be tough enough to learn to use.Give yourself a fighting chance,DON'T BUY JUNK! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbutt.gif

just make sure that the airbrush you get has a tip that's big enough to spray what you want out of it. at least a .35 or bigger.

once you buy an airbrush, you'll get hooked. so get a pretty decent one.
