Any suggestions/ tips on repair of major dent in tank, 5" diameter, 1/2" deep. (my idea was leave the dent and to fill it with mud) The paint is black PPG base/clear ( then to sand clear and black off to original prime, re-prime and base and clear it again) Sound good? Thanks for your help in advance:)

you may talk to a paintless dent removal guy, and see if any of their tools might be able to help.

i advise against the Dent wizzards, their more expensive than having it done the right any way . they never fix the dents 100% and they wont even think about touching most american motorcycle tanks. grind it pull it fill it and then finish it. what kind of tank you talking about, some times you can get a replace ment pretty inexpensive. hope the wounds are healing

Thanks Guys,
I actually didn't wany to drill holes to try and pull it and thinking about it some more I am going to tack weld a piece of expanded metal(heavy screen) in the dent pocket and partial fill (within about 1/8" of finish surface) with bondo (red), then finish fill with Evercoat Euro-soft(blue). That should keep shrinkage to a minimum and feather nicely for filler prime.
Thanks again...here we go....

Ps The tank is totally custom and would be more work to duplicate. I spent about
20 solid hours modifying this tank originally.

I had to fix a dent that was in a custom one off tank and I just used my old school dent puller the slide hammer one to pull out the dent. Instead of drilling a hole I just got a bolt that would thread on to the puller and then I tack welded t on and then pulled out the dent I had to tack in a couple places but the dent came out and then I just had to do a light coat of mud on it. You may try it that way. Just my two bits

If it's that big I'd try to pull enough to at least lose the high edges.Just make sure it's 'clean' enough to strike an arc on,like Boom.Glad to hear the injuries were minimal too, they sure can throw a hurtin on you fast.

Don't forget to either fill it with water or leave it in the sun for a day or two,Don't need any more injuries.

I fixed a dent in my tank like that one time. I tacked welded a piece of 3/8" allthread on the tank and drilled a hole in a flat piece of steel then placed the steel over the allthread tightened down on the nut and pulled it right out.
