hey guys, im wanting to do a custom dash in my project blazer. i have hear to use foam, but im confused on what kind, and how to shape it? ive also never worked with fiberglass. my idea is to lay out the dash, the way i want it in the blazer, shape it, then pull it back out, lay some fiberglass mat on it and apply resin, then let that dry, sand the inside a little bit, then put some fiberglass cloth on the inside of the "mold." then let that dry and pull it out. it can then be sanded and painted and all that good stuff. if any of you know how to do this, please fill me in, pretty please. im lost at where to start. thanks in advance.

I have used a method like you talked about with the foam. I used foam that is a two part foam. I got mine from a friend that does taxidemery work. Any place that works on stuffing of animals can get it. just contact them and go from there. I found the easier way was to make a wood and wire mesh frame. This will give you the shape of the dash the take the mold (frame) out and then get some sweat shirt fleece and streach over the frame. mix up your fiberglass and pour it over. this is a quick and easy way of doing the dashes. Let me know if you have any ???

JUST MAKE SURE THAT IF YOU GET "POLYURETHANE FOAM YOU USE A RESIN THAT IS POLYESTER BASED OR EPOXY BASED" BUT IF YOU GET POLYSTRYENE FOAM YOU HAVE TO USE EPOXY BECAUSE THE NORMAL AUTOMOTIVE STUFF WILL MELT IT....POLYSTYRENE FOAM IS MORE COMMONLLY CALL SYROFOAM .....DO NOY USE A HOT WIRE CUTTER ON POLYURETHANE FOAM BECAUSE IT PRODUCES FUMES (MUSTARD GAS) AND IT WILL MESS YOUR NERVES UP AND POSSIBLY KILL YOU
