Custom Painting on my Ride

This is my first post so i would like to say this is the best forum/site on the web for custom painting . Keep up the good work

I have got the sanding and masking down.

Here is my question.

I want to paint my tank and fenders a dark metalic blue with ghosted trible pieces on them. In my thinking a base of black with then a perl of blue then for the tribal work another perl layer over the first?? I am new to this so my thinking is probably not right. I want to barely be able to see the ghosted tribal work. maybe a 5 % 10 % difference

I am trying to figure this out.

of course trial and error will work too.

thanks in advance to the responses

Welcome to the "Flames Board". Glad you are also enjoying the rest of the site!!

I would suggest keeping it simple since this is one of your first jobs. Choose a real nice factory deep blue basecoat for your base, then use this color, and add some blue pearl toner or some more metallic (part of the paint system's toners you choose from), then using this for the color for the flames. The more pearl or metallic you add, the more the difference will be for the base.

Since you will not have access to a mixing system, you will need to have you local auto paint supply store help you out on the mixing of the two colors. Maybe have them mix up a pint (16 ounces) of the color of your choice for the base, then ask them to take *about* 5 ounces out of this, and add about 5 more ounces of blue pearl to this. Shouldn't cost more than about $75-$100 for the pint and a half or two pints of base.

Thank you..

sounds like a simple plan. I am practicing now with a couple of old bike tanks.

I will post pictures when I get it done!
