Damn the dust!!! I have tried fan out, and fan filtered in and dust and more dust.. How do I kill the dust? The room seems spotless, but pull that gun trigger and I get dust. I have vacuumed, and blown the area totally 10 times or more. I cover my body with well shaken rags.... I have misted the room with a plant spray bottle to try to sink dust.

DUST is taking over the world as I know it!

I am about ready to get a gallon of "Claridon" to get that dust..... Dust be damned... maybe a dance will do it? Do painter do a dust dance ? Lets have it!! Mac

If you check around here for my name as a thread starter you will see my shower as a paint booth... I hung plastic on the walls.

This is no ordinary shower, it is wood, and far smaller than any standard shower....

I had a bit better luch for the 3rd coat of base last night.... I turned the fan in and with a furnace filter on it and the shower stall sky light opened wide vacuumed and reversed the vacuum to blow... One of the 25 gallon shop vac's ya know.... Then I misted the room with a plant sprayer....

Then I set the fan to low for a bit, and left the door closed.... Got the tank ready, and the paint ready, and cleaned up the lazy susan which I can spin the tank around on..

When all was set, I tacked clothed the tank, and blew air only from the gun, and looked damn hard at the tank for dust...

This is my first attempt at painting for looks.... I used to spray dumpsters, but no one cared much how those looked....

Today I need to replace the spike parts of my little project, and move on to mid coat.

The spikes are a part of Miss Liberty's Crown/Helmet.....incase you have not seen any other threads of mine, and a link to yahoo pics as well.. Any help at all, or hints are welcome... I am less than a novice. Mac

LOL The washroom shower with plastic is my spraybooth.30"x42" with a 45' sloping roof to outside via a working skylight. Just out side the shower entrance to the right is a working window...

I wash down the shower, but, can't hose down the room.... This building is an old New England barn. I live in what once was a hayloft.

I did shave off my winter beard early too. I bought a 3-M 6000 model mask, and it would not seal.... I don't have a + pressure mask, and hope this won't kill me with the paints I am using now.....

Today it is 30' out and so it is 50' in the washroom....too cold.... 2 days ago it was 90' in there....

Yesterday I was able to repaint the spikes on "Liberty's helmet.... I need to get that mid coat pearl on some time.. then see about blue, and candy transparent red..... then clear...

if you wish, you may go here to see what I am upto..... in progress... later today there will be more pics.... Mac

If you have cats or dogs. Keep them away from your painting area. They are full of dust, dirt, and not to mention hair also do not wear close that have been around those animals. Hair gets everywhere.

I paint in a metal shop where there is a lot of grinding dust and tons of just general dust and debris in the air. I get around the whole dust problem like this. I went to GoodWill and bought some cheap cotton sheets. I made a frame and hang the sheets (4 walls and a top), soak 'em with water, and soak the floor. Voila, no more dust problems. That "paint booth" works great at home in my dusty garage too. You can see the dust moats in the air, but in the "booth", nothing and no dust on my work. Just make sure you get the sheets really wet, but not dripping on your work, and keep them wet. Mist them from the outside. You don't want water on the piece you are working on.

Flyer great idea! i have to do my car next, after the body work of course. I am changing colors as well.... I don't like the old blue it is, and want to use that electric dodge blue which is deeper.

I wonder how flames would look on a volvo wagon...say bright orange on electric blue?
Wet sheets why did I not think of that??? Thanks for the tip! Mac

More often than not the dust that settles in a job does not come from the room or the fan,it comes from your clothes....wearing a shoot suit eliminates a good % of that problem...#2,keeping the floor cleanis a help but dust, cobwebs and all kinds of other garbage collects up near the cielings/corners as well, when paint comes out of the gun a certain percentage will rise up as far as it can go before it starts to settle back down again...it will attach itself to any dust particles etc that are up high.
#3..Stop using cotton strainers and cheap wooden mixing paddles. As a paint jobber,i know theyre free, but since they arent free to us we give away the cheapest ones we can get....what happens is small particles break off the strainer mesh and even the cheap balsa wood paddles, seemingly disappearinto the paint/clear etc and don't show themselves again until the surface film starts to shrink enuff to push them to the top. Invest the money in metal mesh or nylon mesh strainers and 3-4 metal paddles, the metal are cleanable and reusable and you wont be sorry. Hope this helps
