Devilbiss GTI Millennium

Just wanted to say I am fairly new to painting and have decided to paint my own Harley since I moved to another state away from my buddy who paints. And this web site seems to have some of the most knowledgeable painters around so here we go.

The question I have is I am going to buy a paint gun to basically do primer and basecoat/clearcoat paint jobs and will be using HOK or Dupont paint products. I found that I could get a devilbiss GTI millennium brand new for $289.00, which comes with a 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 fluid tips. Are these tips going to be sufficient for spraying primer/filler, basecoats with metallic and clears?

I went to the devilbiss website and they said the 1.5 would be Ok for everything but priming. I think they just want you to buy a primer gun because they recommended a primer gun with a 1.8 fluid tip. Or, does anybody have any other suggestions about a quality gun to use that will give me excellent results. Also the GTI requires 15.5 CFM and my compressor is rated at 13.5 cfm (is this pushing it for required air?)

As of right now I do not have enough money to spend on two guns. Any help would be appreciated. I tried searching the website but could not find info on fluid tips.

Thanks,

Bry,
I bought the GTI Millenium with the three tips last year and I love it. I also bought a Sharpe Cobalt 1.8 that I use for primer. However, I shoot only HOK paint and the KP2CF two-part Primer is a good filler primer, but it is thinner than most primers. So I believe you could shoot it through your 1.5 tip. As far as Dupont or the other brands goes, I don't know how they would do in the GTI 1.5. It might be worth another $114 to get the Cobalt 1.8 just to be on the safe side. Mine worked like a champ. Or try your GTI and see if it works with the primers before you get into some serious work. Good luck.

Flamethrower,

Thanks I will give the GTI a try. I guess I can give the GTI a try and if I have problems laying primer I could always purchase a primer gun or maybe even a larger fluid tip. I did not really want to spend more money, but if I need to in order to get the results I want I will probably have to.

Thanks,
