Disassembling my Night Train

I am going to be painting my Harley in the near future and I was wondering about taking the bike apart. I have never done this and was hoping some one could give me a step by step on how I should go about it. Thanks in advance.

harleys are pretty strait forward to take apart. you'll figure it out.

back fender, if it's like the rest i've taken a part, there is a bolt in the front part of the fender. i don't have an easy way to get to that bolt other than unbolting the shox and lowering the wheel so that you can reach it.

front fender bolt in the inside.

tank has a bolt on the front and back. all the connections are quick connect

back fender has bolts along the fender brace and i think in the front of the fender that bolts up to the battery box area.

just dig in!

I dont know what year model you have. I am looking at doing a Road King this spring which has EFI and I have been advised to be sure and purge the fuel pump, (inside the left tank I believe) to avoid a massive gas mess. Any advice on this guys? Al

i don't know if it's like my fi Vtx or not, but once unpluged w/o the fuel injection running it didn't leak. i still drained all the fuel out i could.

It's an 04 Night Train. I didn't know about the pump. Should I be concerned about the gas getting every where?
