/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/fire.gifO.K. I know there have been posts on this subject, but I need to take it one step further. I had the lifting paint around the filler hole happen a while back. I fixed it and made a seemless, perfect repair. I read that you tape about a 1/8 inch below the top edge before clearing to seal the painted edge. I did that. The customer had the bike all ready to go from Mississippi to Florida to a bike show that she was sure her bike would take 1st prize. Well, as Murphy's Law would have it....after keeping the bike totally protected for weeks before the show..they arrive at the show only to find that the @#$#%% bubbles decided to REAPPEAR around the opening. I'm sure you have figured where I am going with this. What the hell do I do to ensure that this time EVERYTHING sticks, stays down, adheres to or whatever so that this NEVER happens again????????? If this wasn't a friend of mine, things would be very nasty right now./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/fire.gif

I haven't read your other posts but,it sounds like gas fumes are seeping under the paint,I read before, alot of guys take a paintbrush and brush a ring of clear around, just under the bung and edge of the paint line to seal things up tight.Maybe Scott will see this and tell us what he does nowadays.

You have to come back and seal it because when you pull the tape that edge of the clear is porous, same with the petcock and crossover tubes to a point.Unless it was a flush mount cap I never go inside the bung,I keep my edge just inside or in the middle of the cap seal, depending on the cap and bung design. If I don't get the caps and petcock with the tanks I won't guarrantee it(kind of),and once I put the petcock back on they aren't allowed to undo it without telling me,the 2 piece ones are a pain to get right.I use clear nailpolish enamel alot.
