Do I Need To Repaint The Whole Tank ??

I want to add flames to a factory painted gas tank. There are no pinstripes to be removed and I want to place the flames going around the tank emblem. Do I have to re paint the entire tank or just "de-glaze" the masked area where the flames are going to be sprayed? Once the flames are sprayed, can I just clearcoat them or do I have to clearcoat the whole tank?

If you want it to last and look good then scuff the whole tank before you tape out the flames. After you shoot the flames, clear them. After they are dry scuff the cleared flames and clear the whole tank. After that is dry wet sand with 1000-2000 and take the tape edge down flat. Then clear the whole thing again. Now you're talkin!
