Double dose Clearing

When you "Double Dose', you said that go ahead and bypass the wetsanding, and machine sand the surface down to a flat finish. Could you please tell me How you are doing this? With a DA and 600 or 800 grit. I find myself block sanding and I personally hate to block sand to put on a second clear job to make it flat. Thanks again,

Basically you put a few more coats of clear than usual on but you need to stretch the flash time. When it's dry sand it flet with 6 or 800 wet on a block or 6 or 800 on a DA with a fairly firm pad.600 knocks down the edge flatter but if you're using a few more coats by the end sanding it's gonna be flat. It's better to have the last coat of clear covering a blocked and flat surface as oposed to taking the last of the edge out and buffing.

Rex is right, we 600 DA the surface flat with a firm DA pad, then we reclear.
Talk about some tedius work...

definately don't want to go through..
600 is pretty coarse.

I think I remember on the "Jesse James" feature they had a few months ago, they were using the same grit.

Hey guy's I figured that you could use a DA. I just did not want to try it and screw a job up without asking the pros. Later Dayz

Keep a sharp eye on the edge you're removing too.Dry sanding covers up the area with dust so it's harder to see how much you're removing.Once you get 1/2 the edge gone slide the DA over it and wipe the dust off to see how it's going and repeat until the edge is gone.Once the edge is gone stop and move on to another area.

Anyone know where I can get some 600 grit velcro pads for a DA sander (I picked up an electric Makita unit a few months ago)? Seems the local hardward store only goes up to 240. I refuse to go to the local paint store after they tried to sell me a pint of HOK Shimrin Metallic Base for $75 this weekend (not the first time they tried to screw me). An online shop would be ideal.

Nevermind, just found a place online that sells from 80-600 grit. I'd like to post the link but know it's against the forum rules. If one of the moderators reads this, maybe we could add a links section for supplies like paint and tools?

Thanks-Stretch

I need to learn to open my eyes before speaking. Didn't even see that forum. Can you email me back channel? I've got a few forum questions for you.

Thanks-Stretch
