double dose is when you apply two clears.

step one: apply the recommended aplications of clear. let it dry overnight.
step two: sand down all the high spots w/ 600-800 grit wet.
step three: apply the recommended applicatons of the clear again.

this gives you a smooth edge free surface. use the brand of clear that you are use to.

This certainly seems like it would be worth the troubles, as my coats of clear seem to get progressivly worst - compounding the errors - I suppose.
After your second of the clear do you wet sand and polish as normal? I can never seem to polish to the extent of gloss that the final coat leaves and would love to leave that - its just too full of bumps (and bugs - God I hate bugs- but have to paint outside!)
With this process one would think you can leave the top coat to its original shine, no?

just wet sand, then apply step three. after step 3 dries 24hrs wetsand the bumps and top of the bugs ;]> then buff to high gloss-

2Kewl,it's pretty much normal a buffed finish loses some sheen or gloss compared to the untouched dried clear.Kind of sucks but that's the way it works. When you do buff, try to stay away from heavy cut compounds because they can tear and imbed in the finish and make it duller looking.

Got it and thanks!
using light copound and #7 show car glaze right now - acceptable results - just a shame I can't quite get it to the untouched gloss - seems to add depth though
