Draw and make your own flames

I'm a first time flamer.I'm doing my bike and wanted some flames,I printed scott's sample and started drawing. At first I tried to make them just like his, only smaller for examples,I was going to blow them up on the scanner later. After 2 or 3 weeks,I had over 200 mini gas tanks with flames ,(I **** you not,I filled a steno notebook) I hated every one of them!
I could draw one flame but not a group of them. Finally I drew one flame at a time, making a few differant ones. then cut them out, then layed em out together and made nice fairly even ovals to connect them.It worked great.(My problem was,I was drawing my flames too far apart.)Now I can draw flames in a group and even tape without a pattern!Remember, that there are many, many variations of flames, long, short, spaced close, spaced far, skinny, and fat flames. Now I have my own design and didn't just copy someone elses.Make em however you like, your the one who is going to have look at them every time you ride!!!!!

I agree 100%.You can buy or download patterns all day long, but they're not individual.I prefer to lay out my own at the time.If its wrong, pull up the line and relay it.It's the individualisticness (is that a word?) that sets it apart from the norm and gives it character.

Cool.I made 5 star, thank you Scott for your trust in my opinions. The more I hang here the more I want to dump the body end and get back into painting full time.
