Dry build up on metaliic base

On a couple occasions I have had a bit of dry build up when shooting my metallic base.
Question(s):
1. What is the cause of this? Is it spraying too wet and having the flakes "pool" up or rather spraying too dry? Possibly none of the above.
2. I had this happen on my fairing which is of course a focal point of the bike. My thought to fix it is to westsand down with 2k grit paper and shoot another coat once smooth. Would this be a good way to go?

HI Vettra do you have kind of a fuzzy appearance to your paint,or does it have sort of a pooling look to it.

it had just a rough feel to it and in those areas it seemed to be a little darker. For right or wrong I did wetsand with 2k paper. It really smoothed it out and the tonal value seems to be even. I am thinking that I might lay one more coat down just to be sure.

sounds as though you may have put it on a little to heavy,or that the viscocity of your paint was not reduced enough. As you said it appeared a little darker in those areas leads me to think this is what happened. Metallics can be a little tricky,but sanding and a re coat sound good to me. Don't forget your overlaps. One thing with metallics is that you should not sand them before clearing,as this will scratch the metallic platlets. So you have to pay attention to the window for clearing. If you can't get to the clearing before the window of the metallic has expired. just give them a coat of sg 100 or bonding and jaming clear. Then just scuff this up when you want to clear,and your good to go. Hope this helps,let us know how it goes.
Brian.
