Dry Spray

I'm using an HVLP gun that I've used for the last couple of months with great success. Now all of sudden I'm gettin dry spray and much more overspray in the air.
01. What could be the cause of this dry spray?

02. I sprayed HOK sealer, base, two coats of Kandy Base Coat then intercoat clear. After I resolve the gun problem, can I scuff up the intercoat clear apply a another wet coat of the Kandy Basecoat and then the top clear, or should I strip completely and go from there? The color is right on and looks good, but as I said the spray was dry.

Needless to say this problem never occured when spraying test samples.

Thanks.

If an HVLP is dryspraying, first check your adjustments. If that's not it either the fluid tip has buildup or the aircap is plugging up,those holes look big but a little buildup will screw everything up.I like to soak my aircap in thinner right after spraying and then blow a few ounces of thinner through the gun before it gets put up.If the gun will sit for more than a week I put enough thinner in the cup and put the aircap in there to sit until the next use.

Well, I took the cap, tip, and needle out and cleaned up as well as the cup filter. There was a little paint build up, and now it seems to be spraying ok again, but now I'm getting air leakage thru the cap as soon as I hook up the air hose before even pulling the trigger. Will this hurt anything? I sprayed some clear last night and it sprayed ok but I never had this air leakage at the tip before. No paint leaking anywhere.
Thanks again for the help guys.

Check your air valve the trigger operates,it sounds like it's sticking open.If the gun's been cleaned alot by soaking in thinner or alot of wettings the packings dry out and things start to stick. If you don't have any gun lube it's basically just castor oil.If the trigger feels rough or gritty this is the probably the case.

Thanks Rex. I'll check the trigger out and lube it. Again, much appreciated.
